Places almost sold out for Jane Tomlinson’s Hull 10K

Jane Tomlinson's 2010 Hull 10k(Picture courtesy Hull Daily Mail) The race is now on for the last remaining places in the first ever Jane Tomlinson’s Hull 10K.

There are now only 1,000 places left for the event which will take place on Sunday May 23rd with places for 5,000.
Among those who have already pledged to take part are teams from Hull City, Hull KR and Hull FC.

Also running will be Lord Mayor Karen Woods’ team, who will be running for Cash For Kids and winner of TV’s Biggest Loser show Aaron Howlett, who used to weigh 25 stone and now is now a weight loss mentor and has inspired a team to join the Hull 10K.

Mike Tomlinson, who heads up the events set up in his late wife’s memory, said: “The response from Hull has been amazing since we launched the event. We are now down to our last 1,000 places and I would encourage anyone wishing to take part to sign up fast. May 23rd promises to be a fantastic day and one which will raise huge sums for causes close to the heart of the local community.”

Like all Run For All events, entrants are encouraged to run, jog, walk or wheel the Hull 10K for whatever charity or good cause is close to their heart.

Already signed up are Kirsty and David Charlton running for Diabetes UK after three-year-old son Reece was diagnosed with diabetes, Caroline Neale, a charity shop manager running For Dove House hospice in memory of her sister, and sisters Christine Ware and Annette Quarterman running for the RNLI after losing a loved one in a diving accident.

The Hull 10K is a Run For All event, a not-for-profit event managed by the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. It is intended for entrants of all abilities, from the age of 15, whether they prefer to run, jog, walk or wheel around the city centre course.

Run For All was set up by the late Jane Tomlinson CBE to stand as her fundraising legacy. Before her death in 2007, Jane raised £1.85 million for children’s and cancer charities through a series of gruelling physical challenges while battling terminal breast cancer.

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which supports children’s and cancer charities, has a number of partner charities for the Hull 10K: Cancer Research UK, Daisy Appeal, Dove House and the RNLI which will all each receive an equal share of money raised by the Jane Tomlinson Appeal from the Hull 10K. Those entering the Hull 10K are, however, free to raise sponsorship for any charity or good cause.

The Hull 10K follows in the footsteps of the hugely successful Leeds 10K, set up in 2007, and the sell-out York 10K, held for the first time last August.

Jane Tomlinson’s Hull 10K will start and finish in the picturesque Queen’s Gardens, take in Hull’s historic gems such as the Guildhall and the Maritime Museum and bring runners along the waterfront, past The Deep and through Hull Marina, all with the iconic Humber Bridge in the distance.

The success of the Hull 10K will also depend on hundreds of volunteers to help on race day. Help will be needed with a huge range of jobs including marshalling, manning drinks stations, and assisting runners before and after the event.

Launch of Jane Tomlinson's 2010 Hull 10K

Hull 10K Launch

Tuesday 6th October saw the launch of the inaugural Jane Tomlinson Hull 10k. It is hoped 5,000 will join the Run For All in Hull and that the event will raise a huge amount for the charities supported by those taking part. The Hull 10K follows in the footsteps of the hugely successful Leeds 10K, set up by the late Jane Tomlinson CBE and held annually since 2007, and the sell-out York 10K, held for the first time this August.

Mike Tomlinson said: “To bring Jane’s legacy to the city means a great deal to my family. It was Jane’s wish that Run For All was brought here and we are honoured to realise that ambition on her behalf. Jane was at university in Hull for a year and had many good friends here. Jane also received an honorary degree from Hull University in the same year our eldest daughter graduated there.

“After the success of the first 10K in Leeds in 2007, Jane began to make plans to start a community fundraising run in two more cities – York and Hull. The first York 10K was held this August and was a fantastic success. We are sure the same will be the case for the inaugural Hull 10K next May, when 5,000 people will be able to share that experience and in doing so achieve Jane’s ultimate goal and together raise thousands of pounds for charities and good causes.”

Jane Tomlinson’s Hull 10K will start and finish in the picturesque Queen’s Gardens area and pass through the city’s Highlights both old and new. It will take in Hull’s historic gems such as the Guildhall and the Maritime Museum and bring runners along the waterfront, past The Deep and through Hull Marina, all with the iconic Humber Bridge in the distance.

The event already has the support of the city’s major sports clubs: Hull Kingston Rovers, Hull City and Hull FC who will all enter teams in the city centre event
