British rower and quadruple Olympic gold medallist Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE today joined Mike Tomlinson to launch the 2010 Jane Tomlinson’s Leeds 10K.
Now in its 4th year, the 2010 Leeds 10K will take place on Sunday July 4th with places for 11,000.
Mike Tomlinson also announced that the 2009 event raised £300,000 for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and the Leeds 10K partner charities.
Mike said: “The Leeds 10K has charity at its heart and it is fantastic to be able to announce that the 2009 Leeds 10K raised £300,000 for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and our partner charities – particularly at a time when financial worries remain at the forefront of so many people’s minds. We know that thousands of pounds more will also have been raised for the huge number of other charities supported by the 11,000 who took part.”
Leeds City Council Executive Board Member for Leisure Cllr John Procter said: "The City Council is very proud to continue to support and partner the Tomlinson family in the development of this fantastic event, which has quickly become a major highlight of Leeds' sporting calendar. Leeds 10K - 2009 What a great day!

Congratulations to all this year’s finishers and thanks to all our volunteers and supporters.
British marathon runner Dan Robinson was the first male over the line, in 30.51 mins. The first female was Victoria Graves, in 37.19 mins. sixteen-year-old Hannah Cockroft from Halifax was the first wheel chair athlete home in 36.03mins.
The race was started by 10-year-old Megan Smith from Otley, West Yorkshire, and Nell McAndrew, a longstanding supporter of the event and of Jane’s Appeal.
Megan was asked to start the race in memory of her mum, Sue, who recently died of breast cancer and also for all those taking part in memory of loved ones.

Celebrity runners included actors John Altman, who plays “Nasty” Nick Cotton in the BBC’s EastEnders, and Dean Andrews, who plays DS Ray Carling in the BBC’s Ashes to Ashes series.
Leeds Rhinos legend Barrie McDermott and Leeds Uniteds Eddie Gray and British middle distance runner John Mayock, plus a host of local media celebrities were also among today’s 11,000 runners, .
Also among the elite entrants was Jack Jones who recently completed seven ultra marathons in seven days.
The Leeds 10K team would like to thank Leeds City Council, Clarion Solicitors, Asics, Logistik, Gatorade, Yorkshire Post, Real Radio, Leeds Metropolitan University and all the volunteers for their support, without which it would not be possible to stage the event.
Cllr John Procter, executive member for Leisure, Leeds City Council, said:
“The 2009 Leeds 10K Run For All had more runners than ever of all abilities taking part to raise funds for charity. The event showcases the City of Leeds and its people at their best. I am delighted and proud that the City Council has been involved since the Tomlinson’s first came to us with the concept for the event back in 2005.”
Nell McAndrew said:
“I've taken part in the Leeds 10K since the first one and it was fantastic to be asked to start today’s race and then run again. It's such a special day, always uplifting and emotional at the same time. There is always such a brilliant atmosphere among those taking part and the crowds cheering everyone on. But I always feel very emotional at the same time and so touched by all those who are taking part to fundraise and try to make a difference to the lives of others. And so often to remember someone very special in their lives, like Megan. It makes me think about my dad who was diagnosed with cancer almost five years ago, but is thankfully in remission.”
Leeds based leading law firm Clarion Solicitors LLP once again sponsored the Corporate and Team Challenges, which take place within the main Leeds 10K run.
